KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The baseball Royals “crown” a new stadium site, and it’s back to the team’s roots.
A Hallmark artist drew the original Royals’ “crown” when the team first arrived in Kansas City in 1969. Now the team has announced a partnership with the Hall family to build a new stadium in Crown Center, on the footprint of Hallmark’s corporate headquarters.
But many questions remain, and concerns from a Kansas City councilman. 6th District Councilman Johnathan Duncan joins us to register his frustration over the late location change, the risks involved to taxpayers, and more.
Then, Jackson Count Executive Phil LeVota discusses the county’s role going forward. The city is negotiating a financing package with the team, and the state is expected to chip in. What will the county be adding to the package, if anything?
