WHY I’M RUNNING
My name is Johnathan Duncan. I am running for Kansas City’s 6th In-District City Council seat.
I’m an Army combat veteran who served in Iraq, and I only made it home because my community saved my life. I joined the Army at 17 to pay for college, and when I came home at 21 with PTSD, the mental health services I was promised weren’t there. My community of veterans saved my life again.
I know the cost when our public services fail to meet the needs of those who need them most. As a leader with KC Tenants, organizing for safe and accessible housing for the last three years, I know what’s possible when we come together to have each other’s backs.

Community to me is more than a buzzword. It’s a lived action where your neighbors and your chosen leaders have your back. Community is why I’ve been organizing for the last fifteen years and it’s why I’m running for City Council, because together we have the power to build the city we deserve.
I love this city, I love the people who make it great, and I am running so that I can work with my neighbors to build an even better Kansas City.
